Annotation In the Jewish Autonomous Region there exists and successfully functions a developed network of specialized institutions that makes the basis for the implementation of special educational needs of children with problems in intellectual development and, therefore, aimed at the realization of their social adaptation. Teaching groups from these institutions actively collaborate with our university in terms of psychological and pedagogical preparation of the staff and create optimal conditions for the students’ practicum and the implementation of their research capacity. Each student’s research work, reflecting the specificity of physical education for children with intellectual disabilities, is a modest but very real contribution to the theory and practice of supporting mental and physical development of these pupils. This article analyzes the process and the results of the students’ research activity aimed at psycho-pedagogical support of mental and physical development of children with mental disabilities. It emphasizes the importance of the issue of physical education for children with disabilities, assesses the prospects for its further development in the organization of students’ research work.
