Annotation The article examines contemporary trends in the development of pre-school education in China. We have analyzed the experience of the first institutions for children and the issues of the educational work with young children. Theoretical and practical research works in the field of preschool education that contribute to the expansion and activation of initial education and take into account national characteristics are analyzed in the article. Problems in the organization of contemporary models of pre-school institutions are viewed through the prism of kindergarten methodological support. Different types of preschool institutions functioning currently in China are highlighted: public, private and government- business co-financed institutions. In parallel with the development of traditional forms of pre-school, the attention is paid to such new models as the organization of pre-school groups on the basis of educational institutions and institutions of further education and systematic education of preschool children in a family environment. Different kinds of children’s activities, revealing the specific content of pre-school education in China are identified. The article analyzes the issues of state support for pre-school education in China, the importance of the recent government documents connected with the successful operation of the system of preschool education. The article also considers the level of professional training for kindergartens in China. Different forms of kindergarten teachers’ training that have become relevant in recent years are also viewed in the text.
