Annotation The article deals with issues relating to competence in textbooks and teaching materials used in higher professional education in literature in Russia and Kyrgyzstan. We give a brief analysis of the textbooks issued in the Russian Federation. Having started using new educational standards, Kyrgyzstan still does not have its own textbooks and teaching aids for literature. The universities of the country are using the textbooks that have been published in Russian. Main attention is paid to the issues of competencies – skills and abilities that students need to acquire studying in universities in the field of literature. Scientists of Kyrgyzstan, walking along the path of new educational technologies, pay attention to the experience of textbooks, which is obtained in the Russian Federation. Kyrgyzstan education personnel is aimed at developing a set of competences in literature for the universities of the country different from the set of competencies in secondary education. The work of Russian scientists, literary scholars in preparing special literature of a new generation for students, where different literary processes are considered from different aspects, literary terms, the principles of learning and perception of literature from the point of view of the theory and history of philological (including pedagogical) education is immense. Such Russian scientists as O. Yu. Bagdasaryan, N. V. Barkovskaya, S. N. Broytman and others are working in this direction. These scientists offered textbooks based on modern set of competencies for professionals and bachelors of philology which meet the requirements of the educational standard. Russian pedagogy and experts in teaching literature have not yet determined which of the suggested books are the best. Nevertheless, it remains an indisputable fact that Russian philologists in this direction have done a lot of work from the theoretical and practical points of view.
