Annotation The article deals with the analysis of B. Hubner’s theory that is regarded as the first attempt in the history of science and philosophy to use a semantic approach in order to analyze social transformations. For that purpose the philosopher uses categorial language of semantics but remains in the metaphysical framework. The main idea of his theory is the changes of sense in two metaphysical paradigms determining peculiarities of social development. The article reveals positive and negative aspects of the theory.
