The paper presents the methodological grounds of a systemic analysis applied in studying psychological adaptation
of people living in ecologically unfavorable conditions and describes various approaches to the adaptation
study in modern psychological science showing their limits. The author develops his own approach to the problem.
Psychological adaptation is an integral characteristic not only of the human psyche, but the system “man vs living
environment.” This approach demands studying complex psychological adaptation of a person to the long-term
influence of ecologically unfavourable living environment regarding natural and social aspects of the process. The
paper presents a theoretical model of psychological adaptation.
