Annotation The paper examines some experience of editing and publishing Russian writers’ diaries of the 19th–20th centuries, describes the first journal and book editions of the writers’ diaries with a detailed analysis of the elements of the reference system (preface, comments, etc.) and features of editorial work on the text of the manuscript. The paper analyzes N. Polevoi’s, V. Zhukovsky’s, M. Bashkirtseva’s, V. Korolenko’s, A. Suvorin’s and L. Tolstoy’s diaries.
