Annotation The article discusses the peculiarities of emphatic accent characteristics in Spanish and English through sentence nucleus shifts from the final position in the phrase to adverb-intensifiers. Experimental findings prove the use of sentence nucleus shifts to express emphasis in Spanish. The phonetic experiment results reveal the interference of Mexican speakers’ mother tongue on the choice of their intonation nucleus in English emphatic speech.
