The article describes the characteristics of the notion of «interlanguage» as an intermediate
system which comes into existence in the process of native and foreign language contacts in the
conditions of subordinate bilingualism. The article gives a comparative analysis of the phonological
levels of English and Russian, offers a phonoferents classification of English-Russian and Russian-
English interlanguages and defines the notions of the first (native) and second languages. The study
establishes exact reasons for interlanguages genesis and explains the nature of deviations. It employs
the data received from real language contacts in Russian schools and institutes of higher education
in 2008–2010. The paper analyzes the experimental data of the two languages (Russian speech of
English speakers and English speech of Russian speakers).
