Annotation The paper analyzes the problems associated with the definition of the status of gastronomic metaphors which are considered as indicators of changes in a socio-cultural aspect. The author investigates the role of gastro-metaphors in the process of creating a “portrait of the era” in literary texts and therefore, refers to the significant features of A. P. Chekhov’s idiostyle. The study illustrates the current state of society described with this type of metaphors.
