The article under review is devoted to the actual problem connected with studying
language processes of modern prose, in particular, the usage of techniques of graphic
markedness in the works by Denis Gutsko and German Sadulayev. The work examines
the techniques and its results – compositional graphics shifts. The phenomena of graphic
markedness on the modern Russian prose are analyzed within the text, which allowed
identifying some of the patterns of their use. For example, the architectonic structure of the novel “I am a Chechen!” is graphically marked. The author called his story “Fragmental
Story” that is in advance he warned a reader that the story would be constructed of the
separate components of the text having its own numbering. At the same time, we can talk
about the uniqueness and the originality of G. Sadulayev’s individual style. In particular, the
writer’s style is characterized by a rhythmic narration. Obviously, a graphical breakdown
increases the rhythm peculiar to the writer. The rhythm is constructed on repetitions. In
this case, the repetitions are the short texts. Non allocated direct speech in the story is a
consequence of graphic markedness. The direct speech is a form of manifestation of the
subjective narration. The unselected direct speech appears as a result of modification of
the narration, which can also be called a form of subjectivation of narration. Consequently,
it is possible to speak about graphic markedness of the subjective narration. Not allocated
direct speech is graphically presented in the text differently: there can be no quotes or
verbs entering others speech. In D. Gutsko’s novel “Russian-speaking” the following phenomena
of graphic markedness are noted: italics, small print, graphic spaces, etc. The
author comes to the conclusion that the widespread use and interaction of techniques of
compositional graphic markedness are noted in the writers’ works. Similar linguistic variations
testify to the development of the literary language, to its dynamism.
