Annotation The article discusses the concepts of “social well-being”, “value system”, “young students”, “professional development” that reflect the attitude of today’s youth to socio-political, economic, cultural environment and to the society in general. The article provides a comparative analysis of the data resulting from the monitoring of social well-being in the students of Law Faculty, Faculty of Social Work and Psychology, Faculty of History of Buryat State University. The monitoring has been carried out since 2005. According to the respondents’ opinions, the priority youth issues have been identified, among them financial status, housing facilities, employment and demand on the labor market. The main causes of insufficient socio-economic status of young people have been characterized. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the students’ relationship to their future profession, and the intentions of Buryat State University graduates to work within their specialty after graduation. In this regard, student opinion on the quality of training at Buryat State University is assessed. Professional value system and life plans of students, their relevance to contemporary social reality are considered. Modern youth’s leisure forms are analyzed. The factors which contribute to achieving success in life according to respondents’ opinions such as hard work, initiative and smart character, natural aptitude and abilities are revealed. Thus, it has been emphasized that modern graduates plan their life relying on themselves and their abilities. In general, there is a positive social dynamics of well-being in modern students, and this fact was demonstrated by other sociological studies either.
