| Annotation |
The analysis of Transbaikal Region population’s opinions on the activities of internal affairs employees is carried out on the results of sociological research conducted by the member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Transbaikal Region, by the author of the article and the students of Sociology Department of the Transbaikal State University in accordance with the plan of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Transbaikal Region. During the research the main aims were to assess the degree of reliance of the citizens of Transbaikal Region to the internal affairs employees; to determine the most popular public services provided by the internal affairs department; to assess citizens\' satisfaction with the quality of public services provided by the internal affairs department; to identify the alacrity of the population of Transbaikal Region to assist the police; to describe the possible ways of improvement of the internal affairs department activities in Transbaikal Region. The study revealed the existence of certain problems in relations between the population and the internal affairs department. The dissatisfaction of over a third of the population of Transbaikal Region with the activity of the internal affairs department is the evidence of this situation. The results of sociological research allow us not only to reveal the population’s satisfaction with the Transbaikal police officers work, but also to assess the degree of public reliance to the police. The results suggest that more than a half of the respondents trust the internal affairs department, and every second resident of Transbaikal Region is ready to assist the police. Citizens are the significant subject of ensuring the rule of law and the fighting against the crime, whose potential should be used more actively.
