Annotation The first research of zoobenthos in taiga zone has been carried out in June 2016 on the territory of Lake Shebety, the southern part of Transbaikalia. In the research materials, zoobenthos is represented by 36 taxa. Chironomidae (37 %) and Oligochaetae (17 %) make up the basis of taxonomic diversity. 69 % of species are discovered in the littoral zone above 5-meter depth. Potentially new species of Vejdovskyella Mishaelsen genius, 1903 are marked here. As for faunistic aspect inhabiting in the lake, Chironomidae identified as Sergentia coracina (Zett.) are the points of interest. Quantitative parameters of zoobenthos in Lake Shebety are at low level – 869 ind./m2 and 1.49 g/m2. Chironomidae larvae Sergentia coracina (32 %) and Procladius gr. choreus (21 %) are the basis of zoobenthos biomass. Zoobenthos maximum biomass reaches 4.2 at a depth of 1.8 m with a dominance of Procladius gr. choreus larvae (55 %). According to the composition and loads of zoobenthos, Lake Shebety is similar to glacial-morainal lakes of mountainous taiga zone in Transbaikalia northern regions. The lake may be recommended as a model lake for the researches of Transbaikalia taiga zones’ ecosystems functioning.
