In recent years, taking into consideration the globalization of the educational space, the implementation of business and cultural contacts between foreign countries and the Russian Federation, the necessity to study Russian as a foreign language has increased significantly, as well as the issue of finding effective ways of language acquisition, of Russian as a foreign language (RFL) in particular, gains renewed relevance. Modern requirements for RFL training suggest an orientation toward the formation of linguistic and speech competencies in the conditions that are as close as possible to the conditions of real language functioning, namely, in the game as a universal activity in different age groups, including the adult audience. The article presents the results of studying the influence of game methods on the educational process effectiveness while teaching RFL to adults. It analyzes the historical and pedagogical experience in the field of research, including the review of approaches to the correlation of games and learning, the possibilities of using game tasks in foreign language teaching, as well as adult learning peculiarities. It identifies possible problems while teaching Russian as a foreign language to adults and presents game methods (didactic games), game tasks and game shells that contribute to the optimization of the educational process while teaching Russian as a foreign language to adults.
