Annotation The Federal Law of the Russian Federation «On Education» and the Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education highlight the need to develop the research skills of younger schoolchildren, which is conditioned by new social demands of society related to the cognitive and personal development of children among the primary tasks. The specifics of the content of the school subject “The world around us” are of a research nature, and the practical interaction of students with the environment during the experiments allows them to form research skills to the greatest extent. In the article, the author highlights the results of a theoretical and practical study of the possibility of forming the research skills of younger schoolchildren in the lessons of the surrounding world through the organization of experiments. The methodological basis of the research has become the concept of the development of research activities of younger schoolchildren; systematic and activity-based approaches; provisions on the methodology for the formation of research skills through the organization of experiments. The research methods are as follows: analysis and interpretation of psychological, pedagogical and educational literature on the research problem; diagnostic study of the level of formation of research skills of younger schoolchildren; formative pedagogical research; quantitative and qualitative data processing. These methods have allowed the author to analyze some aspects of the problem under study, obtain reliable results and formulate reasonable conclusions. The results of the initial stage of the study have revealed an insufficient level of formation of these skills, which underlines the need for further work in this direction. The article presents lessons of the surrounding world, including laboratory and demonstration experiments aimed at developing the research skills of elementary school students. The evaluation of the results of repeated diagnostics demonstrates a positive trend in the formation of research skills, confirming the assumption that experiments implemented in the lessons of the surrounding world are an effective tool for their formation. In the future, further research involves the development of methodological recommendations for the organization of experimental research activities of younger schoolchildren, taking into account their individual characteristics and the specifics of the educational material content.
