The article examines the level of Buryat high school students’ proficiency in the Russian
language. The author of the article pays much attention to the number of words used in dialogues
and monologues by non-Russian learners performing tasks in their non-mother tongue. The study
reveals that children of the ethnic school have a fluent command of dialogue and monologue forms
of the Russian speech. However, the detailed analysis of the learners’ communicative skills finds
out that Buryat children’s variant of Russian is characterized by numerous mistakes. The author
suggests teaching Russian and Buryat children in international communities where they can freely
communicate with each other out of class. Suchlike conditions for collaborative communication of
children are presented in classes and schools for children of different nationalities.
