Annotation Dynamic modernization of the Russian education system stimulates the search for an experimental verification of new psychological, pedagogical, cultural, social and other approaches to teaching. Pedagogy of summer holidays is а high-demand, though an underresearched area of studies. Pedagogy of summer holidays has the potential of becoming a special resource in the modernization process of the Russian education aimed at improving children’s and adolescents’ health care and leisure time, implementing ideas of availability, continuity and innovativeness of education during the vacation period. Therefore, it is of great importance to accumulate and expand the experience in this area, while determining the actual directions for further development of this sphere, including healthcare, education, employment, leisure time, and vocational guidance of children and teenagers during summer holidays. In order to do so we need to refer to pedagogy of summer holidays as part of the pedagogical science, preserving its history, studying its modern practice, and developing its interdisciplinary theory. Therefore, this article covers “three sources and three components” of summer holidays pedagogy – history, theory, and practice. Currently the theory of summer holidays pedagogy is the least researched aspect, while the need for a theoretical basis that would link all three sources and three component parts into a single whole is extremely high. This article serves not only for the sake of science itself, but for understanding the current state of summer holidays pedagogy and determining promising ways for its near and distant future development.
