Annotation The article is devoted to the characteristics of Marina Tsvetaeva’s perception of the world, highlighting its main feature – inconsistency. This feature defines the poetess’s language. She often uses oxymoron which conveys the complexity of her world view. The author characterizes the linguistic nature of oxymoron, its stylistic functions in Tsvetaeva’s poetic texts: 1) oxymoron emphasizes the lyrical hero’s individuality, the complexity of her perception; 2) oxymoron expresses inconsistent attitude to the world; 3) oxymoron shows tense relationships between the characters; 4) oxymoron can express the character’s most subtle feelings and emotions; 5) oxymoron is the poet’s way to express her thoughts about the world, the fate of Russia, man’s mission. The materials of this article can be used at the lessons of Russian stylistics, as well as special courses devoted to the study of the language of poetic texts.
