| Annotation |
The article considers the genesis of the content of social activities in the profile associations at the
end of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century, emphasizes the development stages of socially useful
activities, which the author connects with different periods in the life of the country. It presents the types
of profile associations and describes their socially significant activities at each stage. The generalization
of historical experience allows determining the content of social activities throughout the 19th – 20th
centuries that is enriched with each successive period, changes in the structure and directions of profile
associations. This is associated with the development of the social system in the country. In addressing the
educational challenges in the socially significant activity, the author observes a transition from ideological
to democratic education, consideration of profile association members’ interests and abilities, which
opens up prospects for the development of new areas and forms of social initiatives.
