Annotation Independent work of college students is a necessary component of professional training. During independent learning, teachers need to play different roles effectively, which can help students to realize “completely independent learning” in the ideal sense. This paper studying the courses of first-fourth year students majoring in Russian as a background and taking experimental research as a strategy with the help of out-of-school activities introduces how teachers undertake the six roles during independent learning: the designer of the learning task, the supporter of learning strategies, the provider of learning materials, the stimulator of learning motivation, the supervisor of learning schedule and the evaluator of learning activities. With the six roles involved effectively, an independent learning system includes a variety of training skills, links class and out-of-school activities and creates a continuous environment for the self-study. Through this continuous learning system and under the guidance of teachers, students can fully experience the process and the important steps of independent learning. Thus, they can experience the results of independent learning which will help them to realize “completely independent learning” in future.
Key words the Russian language in universities, independent learning, involvement of teachers, continuous learning system; experimental research
