The relevance of the problem posed in the article is justified by a decrease in the schoolchildren’s reading activity on the one hand and by reproductive, monological methods of working with a book on the other. The modern digital realities, where a child lives and develops nowadays, raise the problem how not only to keep a book in the children’s world but how to make the reading process attractive for a child. The author sees the main task in actualizing the effective developing potential of the children’s book in the communicative space of elementary school lesson. From the author’s point of view an effective solution to the stated problem is possible if the teacher, firstly, knows the features of the digital environment that determines the perception of the modern student, secondly, understands the children’s literature specific nature and takes into account the developing resources of children’s book and, thirdly, can correlate this knowledge with teaching methods and ways of interactive, creative work with the book during the lesson. The best children’s books of our time interesting in terms of artistry and content are offered among the children’s traditional literature
compositions. Based on the analysis of the aesthetic nature of a children’s book and its rich value
potential, the author indicates the possibility of scientific research of the problem of stimulating
children’s reading with by using various interactive and playing forms for a small reader interaction
with the book. The author describes in details the several ways of stimulating the younger students’
reading activity in the context of expanding the field of perception. Also, it is proposed to use new
book formats for the same purpose. The results of the study are important for teachers, psychologists,
specialists in children’s reading, providers of continuing education courses, graduate students
and undergraduates in pedagogical education.
