Annotation The article analyzes the activities of the Leningrad Branch of the Publishing House Soviet Writer in 1941, when publishing defense books was a primary goal for all publishers. During the first months of the war the Leningrad Branch prepared and issued about thirty books, many of which are rarities now. In fact, after September 1941 the Leningrad publishing house did not function as a result of a direct bomb hit that had destroyed the editorial office.
