Annotation The paper analyzes the problems of formation, development and current state of such a phenomenon in modern Russian society as consumer education that is regarded as a means to smooth over numerous contradictions that have arisen during the transition to market economy. The author defines consumer education, clarifies its meaning and purpose, and describes its development in Russia, pointing out possible obstacles. The author refers to the experience of the European Union and the United States which may serve as an example of the realization of different consumer educational programs and projects. To conclude, the author recommends effective ways of successful functioning and development of consumer education in our country.
