| Annotation |
A comparative analysis of older people’s wellbeing in Russia and Israel is suggested in the paper. It is based on indicators of the Global AgeWatch Index 2013–2014. Using the latest available internationally comparable data, it ranks 96 countries. It measures four key domains for older people. These are: income security of older people (it is measured by pension coverage, poverty rate in old age, the relative welfare of older people, and living standards using GNI per capita as a proxy); health status (measured by three indicators: life expectancy at 60, healthy life expectancy at 60, and psychological wellbeing); capability of older people (measured by employment levels and education status); enabling environment (measured by social connections, physical safety, civic freedom, access to public transport).The authors of the article are focusing on analyzing the data concerning wellbeing in Russia and Israel. It was found out that Israel from the 21st place in 2013 moved on the 18th in 2014 while the Russian Federation took the 78th place in 2013 and the 65th in 2014. The analysis of the data provided showed that in Russia and Israel the population is aging and life expectancy increases. The comparative analysis of indicators of life expectancy in Russia and Israel in 2013 showed that an Israeli man lives on average additional 14 years. Women in Israel live an additional 8.5 years. In many respects it points to a higher level of wellbeing of older people in Israel. In Israel the expected life expectancy of people over 60 is 24 years, it is 7 years longer than in Russia. The government should implement concrete measures at the national level to solve the problems of older people.
