The article is devoted to the analysis of the linguistic and communicative competencies’ formation
among students of higher educational institutions. The article presents the results of a survey of
Trans-Baikal State University 1–4 full-time courses students (direction 44.03.01 Pedagogical education,
profile “Primary education”). The students were invited to write a presentation that is proposed by the
Federal State Budget Scientific Institution “Federal Institute of Pedagogical Measurements” to evaluate
the linguistic preparation of school graduates. The results of this study have showed that a significant
number of university students make logical, speech, grammar, spelling and punctuation errors in writing
the statement, a number of students also make factual errors in transmitting the source text. Students
also wrote a final test in Russian for the fourth grade pupils. An analysis of the students’ tests allowed
us to identify the insufficient formation of knowledge and skills that are the part of the linguistic and
communicative competencies. In this regard, the group of authors proposes to include in the curriculum
of the bachelor training in the direction 44.03.01 Pedagogical education, the profile “Primary education”,
a special discipline, where an in-depth study of the modern Russian literary language, as well as the
development of speech of students is possible.
