The article examines the issue of using the Internet in teaching the university students. This study
aims to examine the influence of the Internet on students’ learning and education and to identify the
ways of reducing its negative effect. The positive effect of the Internet in education has been much
studied. Nevertheless, there is still little information on the negative effect of the Internet. Therefore,
the present study focuses on the negative influence. The results of observation undertaken indicate
that the process of education tends to devaluation. Students search for the necessary information on
the Internet more often, without trying to understand, analyze and interpret it. The authors provide this
viewpoint through analysis of this problem and try to find such an organization of educational activities
of the students which would allow them to intensify their cognitive interest. The authors think that for this
purpose it is necessary to set creative practice-oriented tasks for the student, to apply a differentiated
system of tasks, to explain in advance the criteria for evaluating the task, to inform students about the
results of their activities. A comparative analysis of student performance at the beginning and end of the
study revealed positive dynamics showing that students have become more interested and active in the
educational process.
