Annotation The article is concerned with the actual problem of the organization of continuing education of teachers in the Russian system of professional development of teachers, taking into account the requirements of regulatory documents: the Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation”, Federal State Educational Standards and the Professional Standard of a teacher. The author focuses on various forms of professional development of teachers of foreign languages, implemented by the State Educational Institution “Institute of Education Development of Transbaikal Region”, aimed at personal growth and self-realization of the teacher, as well as significant in the certification of the qualification category. Professional continuing education of teachers is considered by the author in specific types of activities, as well as components of the system of continuous professional development of teachers. The author of the article analyzes the leading trends and promising directions for the development of continuing education, the set of psychological and pedagogical competencies developed in the process of professional development and retraining, as well as in the course of innovation activities, the implementation of creative projects, and other inter-course activities. Special attention is paid to the need to organize language-oriented courses for the development of language competence of foreign language teachers. Updated information about informal models of professional development, new forms of events organized by the Institute of Education Development of Transbaikal Region are presented in the article.
