Annotation The problems of modernizing modern higher education, as well as the upcoming 225th anniversary of the A. I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, initiate the relevance of analyzing the process of registration and improving the activities of the Institute of Childhood as one of its oldest structural units. At the same time, the use of a three-module time structure: “past-present – future” allows an objective assessment of the socio-cultural phenomenology of the design of the leading trends and potential prospects for the development of the Institute based on the existing historical traditions in the context of the main directions of the organization of educational and research work with students. The article presents the general socio-cultural dynamics of axiological attitudes for the implementation of the general policy of the Institute’s development within the various stages of its functioning, in the context of the educational strategy of the Russian state from the XVIII to the beginning of the XXI century. The author refers to the historical experience when the domestic pedagogical community turned to the problem of the initial upbringing and training of the younger generation in specially organized kindergartens and various types of primary school educational institutions. The article deals with the problems of the establishment and activity of the Institute in different historical periods. The role of the pedagogical community in the development of scientific pedagogical knowledge is revealed. The main research methods are narrative, retrospective and comparative analysis of documents and other sources describing various stages of the design of the Institute of Childhood. The materials of the article can be used in the professional training of students to develop the necessary specialized trajectory and algorithm of historical and pedagogical analysis, including on the basis of an assessment of the features of modernization of the system of professional pedagogical education in Russia. The significance of this scientific publication lies in the fact that it contains valuable pedagogical ideas that can and should be rethought from the perspective of effective solutions to modern topical problems, and can also be adopted by modern teachers.
