The relevance of studying the development of empathy as a fundamental ability for creative activity among engineering students in professional training is due to the following reasons: the training of engineering personnel has now become a national task; high-tech production requires both technical qualifications and the ability to engage in creative activities and find innovative solutions in non-standard situations; a modern engineer must not only possess the necessary professional knowledge and skills, but also have a strong foundation of values, which is influenced by empathy. The analysis of scientific publications has shown the significance and relevance of not only the choice of texts, but also the methods and creative techniques used in the analysis of literary texts. All of this has allowed the author to suggest the possibility of using methods and creative techniques for developing the creative abilities of engineers in professional training. The author presents the experience of developing empathy in engineering students. The experiment has been conducted with students of the Mining Department at the Southwestern State University from 2019 to 2024. During their studies, students were given assignments to work with literary texts that contained professional situations, relationships between people in the same professional field, and tasks aimed at developing emotional response, imagination, and value orientations. The presented creative techniques and tasks aimed at developing empathy have shown effectiveness in revealing the inner meaning of moral relations, personal and professional growth. According to V. Boyko’s “Diagnosis of Empathy Level” methodology, a control survey revealed an increase in empathic abilities. The research perspective may be related to improving the professional training system for engineers, discovering new facets and opportunities for using.
