On the basis of previously unpublished materials from the State Archives of the Trans-Baikal Territory, as well as articles from the newspaper Zabaikalsky Rabochiy, this study analyzes the organization of cultural and recreational activities among the schoolchildren in Eastern Transbaikalia in the 1920s-1930s. Taking into consideration the importance of extra-curricular activities in the organization of work with students of secondary schools, the author of the article gives examples of such work. She notes that the organization of cultural leisure among school-age children in Eastern Transbaikalia in the 1920s–1930s had a diverse implementation. Schoolchildren were attracted to the work of libraries and reading houses, they participated in excursions to production plants, tried themselves as artists and modelers. These activities were realized in the work of several exhibitions organized according to the results of the seasons of the summer pioneer camps. Of no small importance for school leisure was the improvement of hostels and boarding schools for children who came from settlements where there were no schools. In addition, film festivals were organized for schoolchildren, as well as olympiads of children’s amateur art that contributed to the involvement of children in creativity and the development of their talents and horizons.
