Annotation The development of graduate school should have a conceptual basis, which would reflect the goal of developing a thematically unified scientific field in its long term. The purpose of the article is to propose a concept for the development of graduate school at the Transbaikal State University. The proposed study is a science of science. Therefore, among the leading methods can be noted historical, typological approaches and planning method. The concept of postgraduate development should be strategic in nature and answer six key questions: “What promising areas of research will develop in the format of dissertations?”, “What applied value will the research have for the region or city?”, “Will the research of graduate students fit into a single thematic vector?”, “Which scientific school do research belong to?” (question about historical and scientific identification), “What graduate schools are intended for graduates?”, “In what areas will there be employment about graduate school graduates?”. Promising areas for the development of postgraduate study are related to the study of the issues of territorial structures of the cross-border area from the perspective of the Trinitarian approach. The practical significance of the work should depend both on the form of training of the graduate student (budget or extra-budgetary), and on the mindset of the graduate student, that is, his ability to theoretical and geographical generalizations. A single vector for all studies is planned to be provided due to the commonality of cross-border issues and a single Trinitarian methodology. The name of the scientific school is proposed as “The cross-border human geography”. The development of graduate school is designed for graduates of the department of geography, life safety and technology. Employment of graduate students should be carried out in the field of science and education.
